Puel shrugs off the fans’ jeers
SHANE LONG’S first goal since last April earned battling 10-man Southampton a 2-1 victory at Leicester – to pile even more pressure on Foxes boss Claude Puel.
Leicester were booed off – but Puel vowed to ignore his critics.
He said: “The fans are disappointed like us and it’s normal but it’s not my concern – I have to keep my focus and concentrate on the team.”
A penalty from Mo Salah gave the leaders a crucial win to put the pressure back on Manchester City and Spurs. “It wasn’t an opera of football,” said Klopp. “But it was a really nice song.
“We are Liverpool and we have to win football games, and this was a massive game. Everyone knows how difficult it is against Brighton. It was a mature performance. I like that because it is a new skill. We know we can control the game and we’re not that childish any more. We could have done better but I’m fine – the target was to win here.”
Klopp was more reserved about the seven-point lead over City, saying: “It means nothing. It’s cool but we know the difference could be different after the others play.”
