Solskjaer: It’s not about me against Poch

- By Simon Mullock

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER insists that today’s showdown between Manchester United and Spurs is not an audition for the Manchester United manager’s job.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the man the United board have earmarked to take over at Old Trafford next season. But Solskjaer has put himself in the frame by winning the first five games of his reign after accepting the offer to succeed Jose Mourinho until the end of the current campaign. United are in sixth place, 10 points behind Spurs – and another win would be a huge boost for the Norwegian.

But Solskjaer said: “It’s not an audition – it’s not about me at all. It should always be about the players. It’s not about me – and it’s not about him. We don’t kick a ball. The players kick the ball. We might make a decision here or there, but it’s down to the players to perform – and my boys are ready.”

Solskjaer (right) has met met Pochettino only once – beating the Argentine’s Southampton team 1-0 at St Mary’s when he was in charge of Cardiff in April 2014.
