Duke and Duchess comfort hero’s mother
THE Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a moving private meeting with the mother of an Afghan war hero who took his own life.
Dan Johnston, who died last May after developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), was in the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment – part of the special forces which took part in covert surveillance.
Harry had sent a letter of condolence to his mother Viv after her son’s death and the 62-year-old charity worker from Bognor Regis, West Sussex, said he and Meghan were “extremely kind, caring and genuine” when they met.
She said: “Harry is clearly very interested and knowledgeable about the problems of mental health. It is a subject he understands well.” She added: We chatted about the problems of PTSD and Harry said that he would like the “D” dropped from PTSD.
“He doesn’t think it should be referred to as a disorder because that lays the blame on the sufferer.”
