BURLEY: INFLEXIBLE SARRI ON BRINK

- By Richard Edwards

MAURIZIO SARRI is inflexible as a manager – and that’s why he’ll get the sack at Chelsea.

That’s the view of former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley ahead of tomorrow night’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United.

Burley, who now works in the US as a pundit for ESPN, said: “Of course he wants the domestic success and the European success but he has got frustrated in the past when people have talked about Chelsea’s style, particularly under Jose Mourinho.

“He has hankered for a more free-flowing passing game but the problem is, that passing game has been part of Chelsea’s problems of late.

“It’s about getting the balance right. I’m not anti-Sarri, I quite like him, and I’ve enjoyed watching his teams play.

“But I think he’s in danger of becoming the most inflexible coach out of all the top guys.

“That’s fine, but he’s working for an owner who might – and I mean might – suffer it for a season if there’s no success at the end.

“But basically he has to strike a balance and there are a lot of questions at the moment.”
