EU crooks helped to stay

- By David Williamson

EUROPEAN criminals and their families are being given help by the Home Office to try to stay in the UK after Brexit.

The arrangements emerged when the Government was asked if offenders would be helped to apply to the EU settlement scheme, allowing citizens to remain.

Baroness Williams replied: “The Home Office is working closely with the Ministry of Justice, Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, the devolved administrations and relevant voluntary and community sector groups to ensure that the EU Settlement Scheme is accessible to EU national offenders and their family members eligible to apply for status under it.”

Tory MPS who want as many “foreign criminals” as possible deported are alarmed.

Morley and Outwood MP Andrea Jenkyns said: “I hope the Home Office will reconsider the policy... I believe that after Brexit we should aim to have the ability to deport as many foreign criminals as possible to keep our streets safe, once they have completed their sentence.”
