Lock up your mum-in-law... Les is back!

- By Ed Gleave

LES Dawson is set to make a comeback – 26 years after his death.

Two plays penned by the legendary comic will be staged for the first time.

It is material that has never been seen by his millions of fans. His deadpan humour is remembered for his mother-in-law jokes and his wrong piano notes.

Les, inset, also struck up a hilarious partnership with Roy Barraclough as Cissie and Ada.

The new project is being engineered by Les’s widow Tracy in his honour. She said: “Les wrote a lot of scripts before he died and there are two plays that he wrote that still haven’t been used.

“One of them is a comedy. It’s set in a joke shop where they make silly wigs and stuff like that. I’ve read it and it’s very funny. The scripts are all about family.

“We need to bring both of the plays up to date, but the one-liners are all there.”

Plans to stage the plays have been in the pipeline for months. Tracy, 69, is already in advanced talks with industry experts.

She said: “I’ve been speaking to an agent about making it happen. I want to do it while I’m alive. There’s loads to do.we need to get a producer and a director.”

Part of Les is likely to be on stage because it is hoped his daughter I said to my wife: “Treasure.” I always call her Treasure – she reminds me of something that’s just been dug up.

The wife’s mother said: “When you’re dead, I’ll dance on your grave.” I said: “Good. I’m being buried at sea.”

I went to the doctor last week. I said: “Can I have some sleeping pills for the wife?” He said: “Why?” I said: “She’s woke up.”

I used to sell furniture for a living. The trouble was, it was my own.

When I was a child, I had wax in my ears. Dad didn’t take me to the doctor, he used me as a night light.

I can always tell when the motherin-law’s coming to stay – the mice throw themselves on the traps.

Charlotte will be able to star.

Tracy said: “I’ve said to Charlotte that we should get this done. It would be great if she could perform in one of her dad’s plays. That would be wonderful. I would just love that so much.”

Charlotte, 27, has followed in her father’s footsteps by becoming a TV star where she has been a firm fixture on reality shows.

She is now a presenter on MTV dating show Love Squad, which airs on Monday nights at 8.30pm. Charlotte was just eight months old when Les died from a heart attack in 1993, aged 62.
