Roof falls in on Jamie’s scheme for new house

- By Dominik Lemanski

PLANS by Jamie Theakston to build a £2.5million four-bedroom house in his garden have hit the buffers after council chiefs rejected his botched proposals.

Last year the Heart FM radio presenter won a bitter planning battle with residents, led by Michael Attenborough, the son of late film director Richard.

Building works on the project in Chiswick, west London, were set to cause at least a year of disruption, said wealthy neighbours.

But the Sunday Express can reveal documents posted online show a construction management plan has been refused by Hounslow Council.

Planning chiefs wrote to Theakston’s agents to inform them the go-ahead to start works had been refused on the basis that “provision for loading, unloading and storage plant and materials” on the site was inadequate.they also cited a lack of a scheme to dispose of waste and a failure to communicate with other contractors to minimise disruption to traffic.

The report adds that, “no development shall take place”, until, “safeguarding measures... have been put in place to protect adjoining buildings”.

The much sought after conservation area is favoured by many celebrities, including Ant and Dec, actor David Tennant and TV presenter Clare Balding.

Last year Hounslow Council granted Theakston, 48, permission to build a four-bedroom property at the bottom of his 120ft garden at his £6.5million home.

Residents who objected to the development have described it as trying to “shoehorn a grossly excessive development” into a corner of the DJ’S garden.

Mr Attenborough would have been the most affected as it was set to be built next to the semi-detached house he shares with his wife.

To clear the garden for the property a Victorian coach house was meant to be demolished and eight trees cut down.

Last year the former theatre director, who now teaches at the drama school Rada, spoke of his distress at Theakston’s plans. He said: “If it goes ahead we will seriously have to consider leaving.”

Theakston is expected to appeal against the council’s decision.
