It is an opportunity, it is a way of looking at the world, it is a different way of thinking about our country. It is a way of being much more engaged with the world. World trade is in the doldrums at the moment, China and America totally at loggerheads, it’s causing real problems. The UK can be a fantastic champion for global free trade.

If you look at what I said on the steps of Downing Street 100 days ago we said we would recruit

20,000 police officers and now we are, we said we would upgrade 20 hospitals and now we are and we are going to be building 40 hospitals as a result of the decisions that we made. Our agenda is brilliant.

This is about what Brexit can deliver. But the only way to do these great things is if we pitchfork Brexit off our backs. We have got to move forward. That’s the opportunity for the UK.

I thought the Labour benches were deeply uncomfortable that night. We could see they knew they couldn’t hold out for much longer and then the [Scot] Nats and the Lib Dems folded and it was clear by the Tuesday that Corbyn’s position was untenable and we had to have an election.

It is total rubbish. Total Loch Ness Monster. Actually the Loch Ness monster has got more credibility. I saw recent evidence for the Loch Ness monster. This is absolute nonsense.

I’ve got very good relations with the United States, very good relations with the US government but this is something where we think we have got a great plan and great programme and we want to do great things for the country.

I think the roads in this country need upgrading. I think of the A303 or the A305, these are roads I have travelled on all my life and they’re still not much better than they were 40 years ago. So we need to get on with that.
