My Bentley is driven to fix his own dinner!

- By Jon Coates

A DOG owner was shocked when her boxer Bentley was caught on camera opening her fridge door and helping himself to his dinner.

Stephielea Davidson watched as the four-year-old rescue dog embarked on a determined hunt for food.

The veterinary nurse, 25, put two cameras in her home after finding the contents of her cupboards strewn across the floor when she went out.

Monitoring the cameras through a phone app, she saw Bentley waiting for her to leave and go down the drive before opening the fridge and helping himself to food.

Ms Davidson, from Grimsby, who also has another boxer, Chance, five, said: “Chance is an absolute angel, Bentley has been a bit of a nightmare.we have tried child locks on the fridge but he just rips them off.

“We tried more exercise to tire him out and giving him toys, but with no effect.

“We have come home to find him eating a frozen joint from the freezer.

“He has also picked a jar of mayonnaise out of the fridge, so we had to rush him to the vets but thankfully he had not swallowed any glass shards.”

She added: “We have recently moved home and he has been good since then, so I’m hoping we have reached an understanding.

“But I wouldn’t change him at all. He is part of the family. I could not think of living without him.

“My boyfriend Dylan just wishes he would open the fridge to bring him a beer instead of stealing food.”

Meanwhile, a study has found that 57 per cent of owners are worried about leaving their pets at home alone, while 38 per cent of those with cameras installed in their homes said this had helped change their pet’s bad behaviour.

Stephielea is one of the 24 per cent of cat and dog owners in the UK who have installed monitoring devices in their homes for their pets, which was highlighted in a survey released by the Blue Cross charity.
