Major exhibition celebrates Becket

-

THE FIRST major UK exhibition on the life and death ofthomas Becket will be hosted by the British Museum next year.

It forms part of a year-long nationwide programme marking the 850th anniversary of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s murder.

Becket2020 will see venues explore his life through performances, pageants, talks, films and religious services. It will culminate in the museum’s unique exhibition in October.

The Archbishop was murdered on December 29, 1170 by four knights with ties to Henry II. Becket is recognised as a saint and martyr by both the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches.

The public display will be the first time his life, death and legacy has been explored in so much depth, according to the museum.
