How to harvest for new thatch
THE TWO main types of transplant surgery are FUE and the newer strip FUT, which use different methods of extracting or harvesting the donor hair.
With follicular unit extraction, the units – a grouping of hairs
– are individually extracted using 0.8-1.0mm “drill bits”, leaving a lot of very small dot scars afterwards.
It allows for up to 2,200 grafts per day and, in most cases, the donor area of the scalp is shaved.
The second technique, ultrarefined follicular unit transplantation, or strip FUT, involves taking a strip of root hairs from the back or sides of the scalp and relocating them to the bald or thinning areas.
It allows for up to 5,000 grafts per day, leaving a fine linear scar in the donor area.
