BT does a Goodthing to allow more people internet access

-

BT is to widen access to computers and the internet in vulnerable communities as part of its efforts to boost digital inclusion.

The telecoms giant plans to more than quadruple the number of Goodthings Foundation centres it supports this year.

BT currently funds 20 centres, which provide low-cost access to computers and the internet, and supports community workers.

Professor Kerensa Jennings, BT’S digital impact director, said the firm plans to increase the number of centres it funds to 90.

She explained: “We want more people to be able to access the system. Once you’re able to, you become more confident and get more opportunities.

“So much of everything is done online now and if you cannot access the internet, you miss out.”

To support parents and guardians across the UK, BT has launched Skills for Tomorrow, a programme designed to give 10 million people the skills they need for the digital world.

It is creating an online portal to host free resources for parents who want to help boost the digital skills of their children.
