DAUGHTER’S PRIDE AFTER STAR PHIL REVEALS HE IS GAY:
PHILLIP SCHOFIELD’S daughter says she is “so proud” of her father after he came out as gay.
Talent manager Molly, 27, yesterday posted a picture on Instagram of her with her parents and sister Ruby, 24, and wrote: “Love you always, so proud of you.”
Phillip, 57, announced he was gay on social media before being interviewed about his sexuality by histhis Morning co-host
Holly Willoughby on Friday.
He said he had suffered an
“inner conflict” after nearly 27 years of marriage to Stephanie and was ready to “celebrate and be proud” of his sexuality.
Phillip confirmed he was not looking for a new relationship and said “it’s tough” when asked how his wife was coping with the situation.
He said: “Yeah, it’s tough, but this is not something that’s happened quickly. I’ve had to deal with this in my head for quite some time.”
Stephanie is yet to speak about the announcement, but a friend said: “Steph is being a rock for Phillip, as she always has been.”
Speaking about telling his daughters, Phillip said: “It wasn’t easy. But they are so amazing in their love and support.
“They jumped up and gave me a hug, a big hug, a long hug...
“They hugged Steph and said, ‘It’s OK, this is fine’. We will always be a family. We’ll always be that.”
Holly posted on Instagram that she has “never been more proud of my friend than I am today”. Fellow this Morning star Eamonn Holmes said:
“Nobody should be embarrassed about their sexuality and it’s fantastic you have spoken out.”
LGBT equality charity Stonewall has hailed Phillip’s announcement on Friday as “incredibly brave and moving”.
