Ian: I was a Wright pain back then
Ianwright has revealed he sought therapy after getting “too big for his boots” at the height of his fame.
The former Arsenal and England legend, 56, gives an honest interview in today’s Desert Island Discs on
Radio 4, admitting he was “obnoxious” when younger.
Wright told host Lauren Laverne: “You start to say, ‘I’m kind of invincible, nothing can hurt me’.
“You kind of start feeling like you’re breathing different air, you start to think that you’re a bit special maybe.”
Asked if he had got “too big for his boots”, he replied: “Absolutely. I needed therapy because I got to a stage where you’re not hearing the word ‘no’ too frequently because you’re doing so well.”
