For your ears only ...songs that left 007 shaken, not stirred

- By Matthew Field and Ajay Chowdhury

TEEN pop sensation Billie Eilish has joined a long line of music legends after recording a James Bond theme song.

But the list of artists who came close to having the honour, either dropping out or being snubbed, is equally as impressive.

Billie, 18, released her theme for Daniel Craig’s final 007 movie, No Time To Die, last week, fresh from her Grammy success.

While Billie joins recording royalty such as Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Paul Mccartney, Madonna, Adele and Sam Smith in singing an 007 theme, the names of the near misses are just as famous.

Amy Winehouse and Mark

Ronson began work on Quantum Of Solace in 2008, but the late singer was unable to complete the song.

Bond producer Cubby Broccoli lured the legendary Frank Sinatra to sing the theme for spacethemed adventure Moonraker in 1979.

However, for reasons unknown Sinatra bailed out. Another singing superstar, Johnny Mathis, then recorded the song but, ultimately, Shirley Bassey came on board to perform a completely different number.

Country music icon Johnny Cash wrote a version of Thunderball for the 1965 Sean

Connery movie. The twangy guitar theme never got off the ground and Tom Jones finally got the nod.

In 1974, Alice Cooper submitted a rock version of The Man With The Golden Gun. Instead, the recent Eurovision star Lulu was chosen for the song.

In 1981, Blondie were keen to perform For Your Eyes Only, before Sheena Easton sang the track. The Pet Shop Boys prepared a song for 1987’s The Living Daylights, but Nordic pop group A-ha were chosen instead.

For Pierce Brosnan’s debut Goldeneye in 1995, the Rolling Stones were approached to perform. The group rejected the chance, and instead Tina Turner delivered the song.
