- By Jaymi Mccann By Amanda Milling MP CONSERVATIVE PARTY CHAIRMAN

MORE than 100 women and young adults will share nearly £3million of government money to turn ideas on climate change and healthcare into businesses.

Science Minister Amanda Solloway chose International Women’s Day today, and British Scienceweek starting tomorrow, to make the announcement.

Ten women inventors will get £50,000 each to develop solutions for climate, energy and health issues.a further £2.2million will go to the Young Innovator Award, in partnership with the Prince’s Trust, to help young people start up new businesses.

The package – including £5,000, one-on-one coaching and living costs – is targeted at 18 to 30-year-olds.

Ms Solloway said: “Looking through the UK’S history, we find inspirational women in every decade.we are committed to supporting women and young people and opening up new opportunities.

“Initiatives like thewomen in Innovation Awards and the Young Innovator Awards will help the next generation of inventors turn their unique concepts into businesses.”

Female entrepreneurs could contribute £250billion to the UK economy if they scaled their businesses at the same rate as men, she added.

TODAY women across the world will be marking International Women’s

Day, a chance to reflect on the progress made and the battles still ahead to be taken as seriously as men.

And today we’re unveiling a new fund to provide 10 female inventors with £50,000 each to develop solutions for climate change, energy efficiency and health issues, ensuring we continue our country’s proud history of women leading the way on scientific innovation.

The Conservatives are determined to break down barriers for women everywhere, because armed with the right tools there’s no limit to what people can achieve. While this Government works to build a brighter future for women and girls everywhere, as party chairman I want to continue to lead by example and ensure more women than ever get involved in politics. I’ll make it my mission, as I travel the length and breadth of the country, to encourage more women to take the leap.
