Did they try hard enough to make that happen from within? Switching managers is always a gamble, and Tottenham took an almighty risk in appointing Jose Mourinho as the new first-team boss. By the time of the enforced break for at the turn of the year – claiming the club was “out of touch with reality and without a sporting project”.

But it is believed the pair are in dialogue again after a strained few weeks.

It’s unclear who made the first move to end the freeze but it’s thought a the virus, Mourinho had already retreated into sulking negativity, citing excuses galore.

That wasn’t a spectacle just of this season. It has been Mourinho’s story for much of the past decade, sowing discord at every club he has managed.

It is unlikely to be any different when the virus pandemic has passed. pact has been struck, with Pogba believed to have played a role by asking his controvers­ial agent to be less confrontat­ional as both parties try to find some way forward over his future.

But it’s an uneasy truce and Raiola has once again been talking to media abroad about his own plans for Pogba and hinted at a move to Real Madrid.
