HOW SCIENCE KEEPS STARS ON THEIR TOES
THEY may be in isolation but there is no escape for Premier League stars from a club’s medical department during the coronavirus crisis. GPS monitoring means every step and mouthful taken in the next few weeks can be checked by the football scientist.
As clubs go into lockdown, tailor-made packages are being produced – with the aim being that players return to action in peak condition. Few are better placed to discuss this crucial aspect than ex-england winger Tony Daley.
After his playing career, the Aston Villa legend (left) spent ten years as fitness supremo with wolves and Sheffield United.
And Daley, whose 7daley. co.uk website provides instruction for all levels, believes that teams will be super-charged and super-fit come June 1 – or whenever football finally gets back under way.
The former winger, 52, said: “At this stage of a season and given the unique circumstances, it’s about maintaining fitness and injury prevention.
“Whether that’s Harry Kane recovering from a hamstring injury or Raheem Sterling doing sprints as he would in a game, routines will be detailed and bespoke.
“One shining light is that teams with long injury lists – like
Villa, Spurs and Bournemouth – will be much stronger come June 1.
Daley added: “Add the buzz of it feeling like the start of season, it should be a fascinating finale.”
