PM’S pregnant fiancee Carrie has virus symptoms
BORIS JOHNSON’S pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds yesterday revealed that she has suspected Covid-19.
Ms Symonds, 32, said she has spent the past week in bed recovering but she has not been tested for the virus.
Her announcement comes as the Prime Minister continues to display symptoms of the disease as he self-isolates in Downing Street.
She tweeted: “I’ve spent the past week in bed with the main symptoms of coronavirus. I haven’t needed to be tested and, after seven days of rest, I feel stronger and I’m on the mend.”
In a further online message, she added: “Being pregnant with Covid-19 is obviously worrying.
“To other pregnant women, please do read and follow the most up to date guidance which I found to be [very] reassuring.”
Health minister Nadine Dorries, who was the first MP to be diagnosed with the virus, said ontwitter: “I’ve been speaking to [Ms Symonds] regularly throughout. She presented with and has been through the classic signs and symptoms most people experience.
“She is now recovering and getting stronger day by day.”
Mr Johnson chaired the Government’s so-called “war cabinet” yesterday and spoke to the newly elected Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, but continues to battle his sickness.
He first announced he had symptoms of the disease on March 27. A Downing Street official gave an update on Mr Johnson’s health, saying: “He is still self-isolating because he still continues to have some mild symptoms, by which I mean a temperature.
“The guidance says that you need to isolate for seven days but that if you have a high temperature you need to keep isolating beyond that point until your temperature returns to normal. So, that’s where we’re at.
“The PM obviously wants to get back to being able to be out in public but we need to follow the guidance.
“We’re asking everyone else to follow the guidance so we have to follow it to the letter.”
Mr Johnson has been based at No 11 since his self-isolation began.the couple announced their engagement and the pregnancy in February. Their baby is due in “early summer”.
