Sri Lanka bomb plot ‘ignored’
A CHILLING BBC documentary about last Easter’s Sri Lankan bombings says authorities missed multiple warnings of a huge terror attack, writes David Stephenson.
There were specific warnings about suicide attacks in the preceding days, saysterror in Paradise. In all, 269 people, including 45 children, were killed.
Filmmaker Jane Corbin also uncovers footage showing that Islamic State were developing a “drone capability” to bomb resorts full of Western tourists.
Nine IS bombers struck at three churches and three hotels in the capital, Colombo. Six Britons were among 45 foreign victims.
The film features CCTV footage of the casually dressed killers with large rucksacks packed with explosives, nails and ball bearings.
The film unearths evidence that there were many opportunities to stop the mastermind, Zahran Hashim, who was under surveillance for several years.
