Rose: We don’t need to be told to help out
PREMIER League stars will agree to pay cuts this week to soften the impact of the coronavirus crisis on English football, but they are dismayed at being used as scapegoats by politicians.
That was the message from England full-back Danny Rose as an unprecedented meeting was held yesterday among all sections of the game from players to managers to clubs and the various leagues.
“We’re all keen to make something happen,” said Rose, who is on loan at Newcastle from Spurs, both of whom have put non-playing staff on furlough. “I can only speak for myself, but I’d have no problems contributing any of my wages to people who are fighting this on the front line, and to people who have been affected.
“But we do feel our backs are against the wall. It was just not needed for people not involved in football to tell footballers what they should do with their money.
“Conversations were being had about what we could do before people outside of football were commenting.”
