‘We’ll axe a sub to save us £600m’
BRITAIN may scrap one of its four nuclear-deterrent submarines under cost-cut measures being discussed “at the highest levels” of government.
The news comes as the refit of Hmsvanguard has been pushed back six months owing to difficulty obtaining spare parts.
Yesterday a defence industry source said discussion was “actively taking place” over saving £600million a year by scrapping Hmsvanguard.
The idea is to increase the number of vessels back to four once new Dreadnoughts, replacing Vanguards, are ready.
