Duchess affords glimpse behind the curtains
THE Duchess of Sussex has given the world a glimpse inside the home she shares with Prince Harry and Archie.
Meghan made her first public appearance from the mansion in a cream-accented sitting room with a white orchid on a table beside her.
While the decor appeared rather formal, her appearance was more casual. Meghan wore a sleeveless tangerine Hugo Boss top and left her hair loose as she addressed an event for The 19th, a new non-profit, non-partisan US news site.
It was her first appearance since the publication last week of the controversial book Finding Freedom: Harry And Meghan And The Making Of A Modern Royal Family.
Royals are normally prohibited from expressing political views, and Meghan appeared to take a swipe at her detractors when she spoke of “using my voice in a way I haven’t been able to do of late”. Referring to politics and the Black Lives Matter movement, she added: “It’s something that I look forward to being a part of.”
The duchess said she was saddened by the response to the death of African-american George Floyd at the hands of a white policeman, but: “It shifted from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration because I can see that the tide is turning.”
She also said a hunger for publicity has poisoned media: “If you’re just trying to grab someone’s attention, you’re going for something salacious versus what is truthful.”
Prince Harry sent his own video message from the couple’s new mansion, speaking to Invictus Games competitors. It appeared on the charity’s Instagram page yesterday.
