Royal bank joins forces with the Post Office

- By Liz Perkins

THE QUEEN can now do her banking at the Post Office.

Her Majesty’s private bank Coutts is allowing all its superwealthy customers to make transactions in any of the Post Office’s 11,500 branches.

After three centuries as banker to Britain’s rich and famous Coutts, one of the world’s oldest banks, is modernising.

Customers will now have a total of 22,500 locations

Uk-wide where they can bank ranging from Natwest/rbs branches, ATMS and now Post Offices.

Since its establishment in 1692, the core of Coutts’ business has been looking after the wealth of Britain’s aristocracy, landed gentry and celebrities.

The latter includes sports stars including some of the stars of the England football team.

The bank is discreet about it’s elite client list but a profile by high society bible Tatler revealed business with their mega-rich customers is still conducted in oak-panelled rooms over tea served with handmade biscuits.

Martin Kearsely, banking director at the Post Office, said:

“Post Office and Coutts have both been in business for well over 300 years and we’re delighted their customers can now do their everyday banking at our 11,500 branches.

“With 6,000 of our branches being in rural areas, many open longer hours and at weekends, we’re ideally placed to provide a convenient, personable and secure service for their customers.”

James Clarry, chief operating officer of Coutts, said they were glad to have the link-up in place.

“We know that our clients value both personal service and choice,” he said.

“Whilst an increasing number of our clients are using our award-winning digital services, many continue to prefer the ability to engage face-to-face in their own communities.

“It is with great pleasure that we can connect two iconic British institutions, Coutts and the Post Office, to extend our services.”
