Fears Carlo may quit Everton over transfer failings

- By Harry Pratt

CARLO ANCELOTTI is growing increasingly agitated with Everton’s non-existent transfer activity.

The Toffees were recently beaten by Tottenham in the race to sign £25million Danish midfielder Pierre-emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.

And their ambitions of landing Lille’s £27m-rated Brazilian central defender Gabriel Magalhaes are also dead – with Arsenal clear favourites to wrap up a deal for the South American.

Everton’s failure to secure two of his hand-picked targets has left boss Ancelotti infuriated.

And unless Everton, who finished 12th in the Premier League last season, start getting busy in the market soon there are fears about the manager’s future.

The appointment of the Italian last December was seen as a huge coup.

But Everton only secured Ancelotti’s services on the assurance he would get significant funds to overhaul the squad in the current transfer window. That has not materialised and one source inside the club fears the worst if they continue to miss out on players between now and deadline day.

The Toffees insider warned: “There could be chaos here. Ancelotti would not have taken the job without the promise of new players.”

Even before the ou outbreak of Co Covid-19 in Ma March, Everton ha had financial is issues after a s succession of po poor managerial appointments and big-money flop buys.

The ensuing global recession has further deepened the problem at Goodison Park.

But that is unlikely to appease Ancelotti, whose mood will not have been improved as his side came from 3-0 down to scrape a friendly draw at Blackpool yesterday.

The ex-chelsea and Real Madrid chief rarely stays in a job longer than two years.

And Ancelotti,

61, could be on the move again should the current transfer situation continue.
