A DOLL that sings about the importance of hand hygiene is being tipped as this year’s “must-have” Christmas toy.

The Doc Mcstuffins Wash your Hand Doll is being presented as a fun way of teaching children how to stop the spread of Covid-19. When squeezed it trills a 30-second song which includes the message “soap and water you can’t go wrong, scrub as long as it takes to sing this song”. The doll, based on Disney’s cartoon character Doc Mcstuffins, also comes with a face mask, stethoscope, thermometers and a doctor’s bag. Nicola Bergot, commercial director of toy maker Flair Just Play, said: “Her character is perfect for this time, she’s a great role model.”

The Wash Your Hands song was actually created four years ago and the £24.99 doll was developed to fit in with the pandemic.

Nicola added: “The song was recorded way before this terrible time and the words are great for children while they role play as their favourite doctor.

“We are confident this will be one of the must-have toys for Christmas because she captures so much in what is happening today.” She has also seen a resurgence in demand for traditional toys that parents are familiar with and trust.

“Plasticine, Spirograph and Stickle Bricks, which were household names that we know from our past, are doing extremely well this year,” she said.

Nicola feels the shift has come from parents shopping on their own or online without being overly influenced by youngsters due to the lockdown restrictions.

She added: “That pester power that a child would normally have hasn’t been there.”
