Rodgers: Wes can be our golden boy

- By Neil Moxley

WESLEY FOFANA is ready to turn silver into gold and become a Premier League star, according to Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.

The French defender, 19 (below) arrived at the King Power Stadium after a £30million move from St Etienne three weeks ago.

And an injury crisis at the heart of the Foxes’ defence could see him thrown in against Aston Villa tonight.

Caglar Soyuncu has a hamstring issue and Rodgers is sweating on the fitness of Jonny Evans, who has a groin problem.

If Evans is sidelined, Rodgers’ only options are veteran Wes Morgan and new boy Fofana.

But Rodgers has no concerns over Fofana. He said: “He might not have played many games but Wesley’s a big talent. He’s very streetwise.

“He’s never been in any of the national teams – he’s what you’d call a silver medalist.

“He’s had to fight his way into the first team at St Etienne.

“Then, when he did, there were so many clubs beating a path to his door.

“He’s very aggressive and attacks the ball really well in the air.”

And Rodgers says that Fofana will improve under the guidance of one of his heroes on the backroom staff at the King Power, adding: “Kolo Toure is working closely with him and he’s someone that Wesley respects.”
