Rishi’s bright Brexit
IN 2016 a little-known new Conservative MP put ambition to one side to tell the then prime minister David Cameron over the phone that he would not join the Remain campaign and instead back Leave in the historic EU referendum.
That MP was Rishi Sunak who, of course, is now our Chancellor, the second most important man in the Government – which is proof that principle and ambition can go hand in hand.
But more to the point, it makes Mr Sunak the ideal person to lead Britain’s national effort to maximise the opportunities which are now provided by Brexit.
He spent his brief time in the wilderness developing one of the key proposals – freeports – and is a man who believes in an independent Britain’s huge potential.
We congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to the ideas coming from his committee being brought to fruition.
