TO WIN AT ANFIELD... TWO WAYS ABOUT IT

- By Simon Mullock

Solskjaer was on borrowed time.a Champions League group-stage exit and a Carabao Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Manchester City have undoubtedly been setbacks.

But come-from-behind victories at Brighton, Newcastle, Everton, Southampton, west Ham and Sheffield United have illustrated the kind of spirit that United will have to show against Jurgen Klopp’s men today.

Maguire said: “Winning builds the confidence and we have that winning mentality back amongst the group.

“We’ve shown that spirit in the number of games when we have come from behind to win, especially in the away games.

“That shows a lot of character.as a defender I’d sooner not be going behind as much as we have done, obviously, and that’s something we have to improve because there will clearly be times when you’re found out and can’t turn it around.

“That’s what happened in the Champions League against Leipzig but we’ve tightened up a lot since then.”

Maguire has immersed himself in United’s history since joining the club from Leicester 18 months ago and when Solskjaer handed him the captain’s armband he turned to club legend Bryan Robson for advice.

He added: “I’ll keep what I will be telling the players before we play Liverpool to myself – but it’s not about a battle speech, it’s about mentality.

“Of course it will be tough to go there and get a result, it’s never going to be anything else.

“But we are confident.we are Manchester United and we know we can win any game whoever we play.”
