SEAN HAS HAD TO TURF IT OUT BUT HE WILL NOW SPLASH CASH

- By Steve Bates

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche admitted he plans on signing bigger profile, more expensive transfer targets.

After years of watching the pennies, the Turf Moor boss (left) is optimistic the club’s new owners – ALK Capital – will pursue players previously out of his reach.

He said: “Often when we buy players they aren’t recognised as maybe top players, but then we mould them into a way of working that improves them and us.the obvious one at the moment is Josh Brownhill who has moulded nicely into what we try to achieve.

“Josh ended up costing about £3million from Bristol City which in the modern era is pretty good value for a midfield player based on how he is going about his business.

“But they are hard to find. It’s not an exact science so hopefully we can mix that with some possibly higher profile, higher financial signings over time. It’s a mix of development in-house and getting the right players in when we can to build on what we have achieved so far.

“Whatever challenges come into football the super-power clubs have always bought players and will pay what they need to pay to get them.

“We haven’t been able to do that and I don’t think that will radically change.

“We want to continue to move forward but in the right way. So it won’t be a case of ripping it up and starting again – and here’s £100m and just get on with it.

“It’ll be about layering up and moving the club forward kind of like it was going anyway.

“But with maybe more of an open-mindedness to what the transfer market is offering.

“But even that is tricky because we don’t truly know with Covid what the market is offering financially.”
