The truth on Boris

- By Dave Armitage

Stan Rhodes (Letters, February 14) says that media coverage of the pandemic has added to the air of gloom – meaning of course that they’ve told the truth about blabbering Boris Johnson’s dithering and errors, which Mr Rhodes doesn’t care to hear. I don’t think that Andrew Neil will be more lenient.

Your brilliant editorial praising Priti Patel’s sweet little tribute to the youth of the country is also well-timed (“Priti’s police salute”, February 14).

BRENDAN RODGERS says he can spot a managerial maestro in midfield star Youri Tielemans.

Leicester boss Rodgers is renowned for his attention to detail on the coaching side of the game.

And he reckons he’s seen something in his young Belgian ace that sets him apart from the rest.

Tielemans (below) will be in the thick of the action today as the Foxes try to maintain their push for a top-four finish with a crucial clash at Aston Villa.

The former Anderlecht and Monaco man joked that his boss thinks he is after his job but takes it as a massive compliment.

Tielemans said: “He thinks I can be a manager – I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I am never a problem. I live quite a quiet life. I’m a good family man.”

Rodgers can’t believe Tielemans is still so young. He said: “He’s been brilliant to work with. He deserves all the accolades he gets.

It’s easy to forget he’s only 23 years of age.

“His tactical view of the game is at the very highest level and now he’s got used to the physical side of the game here.

“That side of things can make it tough when you first come over and sample the physicality of the Premier League.

“But Youri sees the passes so early as well, so he’s able to give himself the time and space he needs more often than not, even from tight situations.”
