Salute Captain Sir Tom and his heroic legacy

-

THE FUNERAL of Captain Sir Tom Moore with full military honours yesterday was a fitting farewell to a truly great British hero.

The 100-year-old inspired the nation last year when he raised more than £38million for NHS causes with his famous 100-lap walk around his family’s garden at a time when many were faced with fear and uncertainty.

As a Secondworldwar veteran he provided an important and seamless link to the last time this country had to come together in a collective national effort to overcome a vicious, deadly foe.

Along with the Queen he showed that the older generations in this country and their accumulated wisdom and experience have much to offer, especially in times of national crisis.

For all of us, but especially Sir Tom’s family, there is much regret that he was not able to soldier on to see the fruits of his efforts when in just a few extra months we might eventually be free again to go about some semblance of normal life.

He will, though, live on in our memories and gratitude. More than that, Sir Tom’s material legacy will be the NHS charities and research he did so much in helping to fund.

Lives in the future will be saved thanks to his efforts and that has been his greatest gift to his country.

His stalwart and undaunted attitude is what made Britain great before and will make us great again.we should never forget him and all he represented.
