Rupert

And The Cold Cure EPISODE 27

-

Saying goodbye to the little dwarf, Rupert runs homeward, feeling very pleased with himself.

“It’s all turned out jolly well,” he thinks, “except that I didn’t spend so much time with Bill as Mrs. Badger thought I would. Still, I did make him forget himself for a while. What fun I shall have at home when I tell them about it all.”

But when he dashes into the cottage Mrs. Bear shivers.

“Brrr, shut that door quickly,” she says. “It’s terribly cold, and neither Daddy nor I are feeling at all well today.”

A cataract occurs when the lens in your eye becomes cloudy. Initially, your vision becomes misty or hazy, but eventually the vision disappears completely.

“Cataracts may start to develop in the 40s and 50s but don’t normally cause symptoms until your 60s or beyond,” says Dr

Deborah Lee (doctorfox.co.uk ).

“A healthy well-balanced diet is essential, full of antioxidants – these are found in abundance in fresh fruit and vegetables. Also, do not smoke, and only drink alcohol in moderation.”

Wearing dark glasses to prevent excess UV light may sometimes be helpful too.

The NHS offers free two-yearly eye tests to adults aged 60 and over.

“Check your glasses are the correct prescription to reduce the risk of trips or falls. Once cataracts are detected, you will be referred to a consultant ophthalmologist for further advice.

“Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed operation in the UK and has excellent results.”
