WILDER’S SYMPATHY FOR RIVAL

- By Simon Mullock

CHRIS WILDER believes football can help Jurgen Klopp and Alisson come to terms with the family tragedies that have plunged Liverpool into a state of mourning.

The Sheffield

United boss (above) has nothing but sympathy for his Anfield rival following the death of the German’s mother from coronavirus last month. Now

Kop keeper Alisson has been left devastated after his father drowned while swimming in a lake at the family’s holiday home in Brazil.

Ahead of the clubs’ clash tonight, Wilder said: “There are always situations which happen in people’s personal lives.

“We all have those situations but in time we always come back to the one thing that is consistent in our lives – and it’s that game of football.”

Wilder had a public spat with Klopp this season over the question of more substitutions.

But he insists he has nothing but respect for the Liverpool boss.

He said: “I’ve got so much admiration for Jurgen. He’s a top-class manager.”

BRENDAN RODGERS believes Kieran Tierney is a captain-in-waiting at Arsenal.

Leicester’s boss gave the teenager his break at Celtic and looked on with pride as the left-back tied up a £25million move to the capital.

The defender, now

23, has emerged as one of the bright lights in Mikel Arteta’s stuttering Emirates campaign and Rodgers (with Tierney, right) said: “Kieran is frightened of no one. He knows no fear. That’s how he plays and it’s what he is on the field.

“He plays with leadership attributes. At Celtic he had a great mentor in Scott

Brown. I have no doubt Arsenal supporters will see that in him. He will be a great ambassador both on and off the pitch.”
