THE German beach volleyball duo prevailed in a heated bikini battle ahead of the Qatar leg of the FIVB World Tour.

The tournament policy required competitors to play in shirts and trousers instead of the traditional two-piece next month – on cultural sensitivity grounds.

The Germans threatened to boycott the event, with Sude (right) insisting the pair wanted to wear their work clothes to work.

The Qataris then backed down, announcing there would now be no restrictions on uniforms at the event. Qatar stages the men’s football World Cup next year. Presumably it will be played in shorts.
