Change in the air for smelly landfill sites
LANDFILL operators could face a crackdown over smelly sites, under proposals from a Tory MP.
Aaron Bell wants to improve the lives of nearby residents by slashing the legal limit of “rotten egg” hydrogen sulphide emissions.
He also calls for compensation when odour limits are exceeded and a presumption against planning permission for new waste sites in built-up areas.
The Newcastle-under-lyme MP believes residents are often powerless to deal with odours from waste sites that can make life a misery and jeopardise house sales.
He said: “The situation is unfair on my residents.”
Mr Bell will introduce his proposals in the Commons on Tuesday.
ACTOR Laurence Fox has announced that he will run for London Mayor.
Mr Fox will bid to unseat Sadiq Khan under the banner of his Reclaim Party.
It comes as a Savanta Comres poll reveals more than half of all Londoners want the national lockdown lifted by the end of May, much sooner than the Government’s earliest date for ending restrictions.
Mr Fox said: “The UK tax burden is at its highest level for 50 years.we have to get it under control.
“That’s why I am standing for London Mayor.with almost all older and vulnerable people having got their jab, I want the lockdown lifted straight away.”
