Stargazing at Harting Down West Sussex

-

At this Dark Sky Discovery Site, looking up at the stars filling the bowl-shaped expanse of sky feels like you can reach out and touch every single one of them.

Although stargazing is a year-round activity, the winter months provide greater darkness with less chance of atmospheric humidity, meaning the sky is crisp and clear. It’s also the best time to see the prominent Orion constellation, visible in the northern hemisphere between November and February. ■■darkskydiscovery.org.uk

DELIVEROO is to offer its customers £50million of shares as part of its £8billion London Stock Exchange flotation, which could be announced as early as tomorrow.

Customers can register their interest in the flotation or initial public offering (IPO) through the Deliveroo app from Monday. It has dubbed the shares offer “Great food with a side of shares” and it will also be open to its riders and restaurant partners.

The takeaways and on-demand groceries delivery group also plans to give £16million worth of cash bonus payments to its riders in the 12 countries it operates in, as part of its IPO.

Deliveroo chief executive and co-founder Will Shu said: “Our customers have played a central role in supporting our growth and we wanted to give them the chance to share in the next stage of our journey. Far too often normal people are locked out of IPOS, and the only participants are the institutional investors.”

The company is expected to reveal details of its IPO this week, including how much of it Shu and his backers will sell to outside investors.

Deliveroo had been loss-making since it was founded by former banker Shu and Greg Orlowski in London in 2012, but it became profitable during the second and third quarters of last year due to the pandemic driving demand.
