Kohli target now world domination for inspired India

- By Dean Wilson

INDIA celebrated their series win over England before quickly turning their attentions to the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.

The inaugural event takes place at Lord’s in June, with India the early favourites after beating Australia and then England in successive series.

Virat Kohli (above) admitted thoughts of getting to the final initially distracted his side, who now can’t wait to try to win more silverware.

Kohli said: “We are a side that is very committed to play Test cricket and all these extra things can be a distraction for us.

“There was never a question of commitment or whether we are going for a win or not. Now we are in the final, we can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Ravi Ashwin added: “Because of the World Test Championship final we had to win.

“For all of us the championship final is as good as the World Cup so it means a lot to us.”

India face England again in a five-match return series in August and September, and former fast bowler Steve Harmison fears that Joe Root’s side could struggle on home turf as well.

The ex-england paceman said: “This result and their win in Australia makes me a little bit worried about when they come over to England to play here.

“I think they’ve got a good chance of turning England over.”

CRYSTAL PALACE boss Roy Hodgson expects rising star Eberechi Eze to get even better.

Eze (below) has impressed for Palace in his first Premier League season.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, an assistant coach during Hodgson’s time as England boss, rates him but says there are areas he must improve – and the Palace chief agrees.

“He’s been excellent and made superb progress,’’ said Hodgson. ‘‘He’s had a very quick rise and there are very few players at his age of 22, playing their first season in the Premier League, like that.

“A lot of the things Gary said about improving areas of his game are, of course, true. The first person to admit that would be Eberechi Eze.

‘‘He is very keen to improve and I’m delighted with his progress.

‘‘We haven’t seen the best of him. We will see a better EE every month that goes by.”

MANCHESTER UNITED will always stick to the traditions built by Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, says boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (right).

And he insists he won’t copy anyone else – not even Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. He said: “No one has invented any style by themselves.”
