■■After the Wakashio oil spill off the coast of Mauritius last year, tourism and hotels on the island are turning their attention to sustainabi­lity. And there’s a range of new initiative­s to support to ensure you tread lightly. Enjoy a boat trip with a guide from Mauritian Wildlife Foundation visiting the island of Ile Aux Aigrettes, with its nature reserve, and Ile Aux Fouquets, with a distinctiv­e lighthouse built in 1864. A local start-up, Taste Buddies, is offering tours of Port Louis where you’ll learn about the island’s history while sampling traditiona­l dishes along the way. Electro Bike tours also has an adventure exploring the wild landscapes, such as Bel Ombre, Rochester Falls and the golden sandy Riambel beach.
