Gordon says Scots can get in with wrong crowd

- By Neil Moxley

GORDON STRACHAN says Scotland can create history and qualify for the knock-out phase – and also profit from a reduced capacity atwembley.

The former Celtic boss (left) believes that escaping Group D is within reach for a squad that has a feel-good factor.

And he says that with Wembley capped to a maximum of 25,000, it could work in favour of Steve Clarke & Co.

Speaking at a Betfair event, he said: “I fancy Scotland to get out of the group. I think we are getting Croatia at a good time.they are an ageing team.we played them in

2014 and beat them twice.

“If you can get close to Luka Modric, possibly man-mark him, then you are taking away 50 per cent of his passing.

“That’s a 50 per cent less chance of them scoring, trust me. I did it once with Andrea Pirlo, I asked Scott Brown to man-mark him.we won 2-1.

“It’s not like me to do that – and you are taking a chance with someone because they can get booked early.

“But I thought it was worth it with Pirlo. It’s the same with Modric.

“Likewise, with England, I think it will be good for Scotland without a full house.

“Why do I say that? They are so desperate to beat

England and that desperation seeps through to one or two players.

“They get too emotional. They run about all over the place. Crashing into tackles, putting themselves at risk of being sent off.

“You can lose focus.with that crowd not being there, it could help them.”
