Taliban stops girls going to school
Thetaliban has banned girls from attending schools, sparking fresh fears of a return to the harsh rules of the 1990s.
The group has ordered only boys and male teachers to attend after they reopened in Afghanistan.
A statement from thetaliban read: “All male teachers and students should attend their educational institutions.”
However, spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said girls’ schools would reopen, and that they were working on a “procedure” for it.
Girls were unable to attend school when thetaliban ruled the country between 1996 and 2001.
Rather than ban female education, they simply did not open any girls’ schools, citing security concerns – the same explanation that has now been used to remove women from their places of work.
