Everyone must chip in
To those against the hike in National Insurance and their view that we shouldn’t make the young pay for the elderly (“Social care reform plans just muddy the waters”, September 12), I suggest they consider who paid for their upkeep until the age of 16 or, if they went to university, until their early 20s.
Now they are being asked to pay a small contribution to our upkeep.
Even if it was double what’s being asked, it wouldn’t be anywhere near the amount which we gave them.
