IAN’S RELISHING NEW CHALLENGE

- NEIL MCLEMAN

IAN POULTER is ready to eclipse a new generation of American stars after seeing off the old guard of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

And Europe’s talisman has predicted more matchplay “shock results” to make a mockery of the world rankings.

Superstars Woods and Mickelson are missing for the first time but ahead of his seventh Ryder Cup appearance, Poulter, 45, said: “This American team is a fresh challenge. Eight in the world’s top 10.

“But it’s matchplay and any player on his day can beat any player. They have six rookies. They’re going to feel something different, something they’ve never experienced before.”
