MY TV LIFE

Tom Stade

- GARRY BUSHELL

Canadian stand-up comedian Tom,50, is best known for his TV appearances on Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week and Michael Mcintyre’s Comedy Roadshow

What was your first TV memory?

It was a US kids’ series called The JP Patches Show hosted by a clown called JP Patches. I remember this vividly because my mother got through to him and had him wish me a happy birthday when I was six!

Who was your first TV crush?

That would have been Heather Locklear who was Stacy Sheridan on TJ Hooker. I also had a poster of Farrah Fawcett on my bedroom wall – I think my dad got it for me, ‘just to make sure…’

What was your first TV appearance?

In the UK it was the Comedy Store on Comedy Central in 2004, then the big one, Michael Mcintyre’s Comedy Roadshow, wearing a suit that made my

shoulders look like Frankenstein’s Monster. I’d done a lot of TV in Canada.

What is your favourite current show?

Probably Bargain Hunt. I hear about great shows on Netflix but I think, “How is that going to help me make money?” My wife and I go to charity shops and buy something good for 50p because of Bargain Hunt. Thanks Phil! Thanks Mark! Thanks Anita!

Which TV show would you take to a desert island?

Cheers. Everyone had a character they could relate to. For me it was Sam Malone. I was a good-looking guy but I never found my Diane. It drove me crazy!

What TV show would you like to put out of its misery?

Family Guy. I know everyone likes it but it steals from other shows. It’s written off the backs of other people’s talent.

Guiltiest TV pleasure?

I love Googlebox. I love watching people watch TV. I feel like my opinions are validated. I’m a cheesy guy when it comes to that kind of stuff. I’m on the road so much I don’t see much TV. I just get clips on Googlebox.

What are you up to at the moment?

I’m on tour. Go to my website and you’ll find a show near you. I’m on fire! ● Tom Stade’s stand-up show, You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet, is touring until January. For dates see tomstade.com
