FAILURE JUST

Today, 4.30pm Klopp backs his stars to sparkle

- REPORTING

JURGEN KLOPP has backed his misfiring Liverpool forwards to come good, claiming: the better you are, the more often you fail. Sadio Mane has failed to provide a goal or assist in nine Reds outings, spurning a glorious chance during Tuesday’s defeat to Leicester City.

Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, had provided either a goal or assist in 15

consecutive games before drawing blanks against Tottenham and Leicester.

Asked about Mane, Klopp revealed that his analysts believe there has been no overall drop-off in terms

of the

Senegalese’s performances. He said: “Sadio has no problem with confidence but, of course, the momentum finishing-wise is not there in the moment. Otherwise, Sadio plays really well.

“One of our analysts knocks on my door. He said he’d made a video to show Sadio how much he contributes to our game, how good he is these moments.

“Obviously the intention was to show that he should not be too worried that the finishing at the moment is not there and that he is still an incredibly important player for us.that is actually the view we have on it.

“Pretty much all strikers have to go through these things. It happened to Sadio before, he came out of that and scored incredibly important goals.

“I’m pretty sure he has a chance to score one on Sunday.after that, he is then away for a few weeks (at the African Cup of Nations), then he is coming back and we can talk about all the things.you have to take these things from time to time and it will be good again.”

Salah (below) would have been straight back on the goal trail at Leicester had it not been for his decisive first-half penalty miss.

However, Klopp believes the Egyptian, 29, would have quickly shrugged off that setback had his team-mates created more goalscoring opportunities.

The boss continued: “The penalty just makes him more greedy to score in the game usually. It didn’t happen in that game but we didn’t play a really good game.

“If we bring him more often into promising situations, I’m pretty sure that he would finish one of them off.

“But they are top, top, top-class players and they deal constantly with failure, that’s our life.

“You have to try it in these situations, then you can fail.

“If you fail there, no problem – go again and everything will be fine.

“And that’s pretty much the mindset Mo is in and Sadio as well.”
