Djokovic DID have Covid last month

- By Lucy Johnston and Berny Torre

TENNIS star Novak Djokovic had a vaccine exemption to enter Australia after a Covid infection on December 16, according to his lawyers.

The world’s top ranked player was denied entry after landing in Melbourne last week to play in this month’s Australian Open.

Many Australians were furious when Djokovic, 34, who has said he is opposed to vaccination, was granted a medical exemption. Now the

Serbian is in an immigration detention hotel, in Melbourne, ahead of a court hearing tomorrow where he will ask for the decision to be quashed.

Yesterday his lawyers released documents which said: “Mr Djokovic had received, on 30 December 2021, a letter from the Chief Medical Officer of Tennis

Australia recording that he had been provided with a ‘Medical exemption from Covid vaccination’ on the ground that he had recently recovered from Covid.”

However, questions were raised over his Covid status after pictures emerged of him attending a number of indoor public events, including presenting children with trophies, in the days after his lawyers said he had tested positive on December 16.
