Hope for stuttering sufferers
Genetic research has revealed a mutation which could be to blame for stuttering.
The study reveals that several different genes play a role in causing stutters, according to scientists at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre and Wayne State University, both in the US. It wasn’t previously known what the genetic link in stuttering was. Blood and saliva was collected from 1,800 participants with a stutter, including 250 families with three generations of people who stuttered.
The research could go on to inform new treatments for the condition, which has no cure.
