Shane finishes off Saints’ Long night
SHANE LONG steered 10-man Southampton into the fourth round as Swansea imploded in extra-time.
The veteran Irish striker struck late in the first extra period as the hosts conceded twice in seven minutes despite their one-man advantage.
Nathan Redmond had put Saints ahead in the eighth minute, and even though they lost defender Yan Valery for a second yellow card after half an hour they looked comfortable until Joel Piroe (left) equalised on 77 minutes in a stadium empty because of Welsh Covid rules.
The Swans went ahead through an own goal by Jan Bednarek but the Saints twice carved the Welsh club open through Mohamed Elyounoussi and finally Long.
