ANFIELD’S STRENGTH WILL HELP TITLE BID

THE international break won’t derail Liverpool’s momentum, as they sit just one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Anfield side are on an impressive run of form, having won their last five league games – and Liverpool legend John Barnes insists the strength in Jurgen Klopp’s squad will ensure they keep driving forward.

Pep Guardiola’s City could only manage a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in their last top-flight fixture and also lost 3-2 to Tottenham back in February.

Barnes, who won two league titles with Liverpool, reckons the April 10 showdown at The Etihad will define the season.

“City haven’t been playing badly, despite the fact they drew the other day when they should have won,” he said.

“I can see both teams winning the vast majority of their remaining games.

“It’s the game where they play one another that will be the decider. City are at home and they are still in the driving seat.

“I’d make City the slight favourites but Liverpool have a much better chance than six weeks ago.

“The international break will not affect Liverpool’s momentum. They have a strong enough squad now to compete at all levels, in all competitions.”

Liverpool are still competing on all fronts, having already won the Carabao Cup.

They face a Champions League quarter-final with Benfica on April 5, followed by another battle with City at Wembley on April 16 in the FA Cup semi-final.

However, Barnes believes a historic Quadruple might be a step too far.

“It’s possible but I think it’s unlikely,” he added.
