WHERE AND WHY
Just outside Falmouth in Mawnan Smith,
Hotel Meudon is the perfect place to unwind.
The country house hotel offers the ultimate relaxation experience, with its own private sub-tropical gardens, leading to a secluded beach. Everything has been thought of before you realise you need it, including umbrellas positioned at the front door, so you can enjoy the gardens and beach in any weather.
There is also a basket of beach towels at the front desk, so you can help yourself.
Our comfortable room, which had a bed with a luxe Vispring mattress, balcony and outdoor seating, offered a lovely view of the gardens and beyond to the sea. And at night, the property was delightfully peaceful.
ON THE MENU
We enjoyed a three-course evening meal with incredible table service. Being able to try the wine before committing to the bottle was a nice touch. The dining room had a very romantic feel, looking out at the beautifully lit garden.
As for the food... exquisite. From the cheese souffle with apple, hazelnut and grape for starters to the south coast sea bass and short rib Hereford beef with caramelised Roscoff onion.
The attention to detail on the sticky toffee pudding, with caramel sauce, white chocolate whip and a biscuit leaf, was stunning.
You can add a selection of cheese as a fourth course for an extra £10. Dessert wine is also offered between £8.50 and £10 a glass.
The three-course menu, which changes regularly, is £45, with two courses for £36.
At breakfast, we were offered as much cereal and pastries as we liked, along with a mouthwatering Full Meudon cooked special.
WHILE YOU’RE THERE
Take a walk through the gorgeous garden and take in the sounds and smells of the sea.
Another must for anyone wanting to completely destress is a trip to the spa. I opted for a deep tissue massage (from £75) in a serene treatment room.
Hotel Meudon also offers yoga sessions, one-to-one or group sessions, which can be carried out on the beach for an alternative
meditation experience.
